Senator Willie Preston Juneteenth Celebration FlyerCHICAGO – State Senator Willie Preston is thrilled to announce a Juneteenth Day celebration in his community, taking place at O'Hallaren Park on June 19 from 1-5 p.m.

“By holding events in our community we can educate the next generation on the importance of this historic date, while also giving them an opportunity to have some fun and enjoy the festivities!” said Preston (D-Chicago).

The event, organized by Senator Preston's office, will feature food, music, and a basketball tournament highlighting the best in our community. The celebration aims to commemorate the historic milestone of Juneteenth and honor the ongoing struggle for justice and equality in Illinois and across the nation. This festive occasion will bring together residents, community leaders and organizations to foster unity, resilience and cultural appreciation.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks the day when news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865, effectively granting them freedom. Senator Willie Preston recognizes the significance of this historic day and its enduring relevance in the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality. He will be joined in hosting this celebration by Alderman Derrick Curtis and 8th District Police Councilman Mark Hamberlin.

The Juneteenth Day Event at O'Hallaren Park promises to be a vibrant and spirited celebration, with a multitude of activities and attractions for attendees of all ages.
